對岸友站「專門網(51nb.com)」在2007年最後一天送上了一份跨年大禮給ThinkPad愛用者們，友站刊出的「新一代ThinkPad曝光？」專文首度揭露了傳聞已久的13.3吋寬螢幕ThinkPad的神祕面紗。在此感謝專門網站長HOPE授權本站引用該文的圖片。站長僅節錄其中三張機體的照片，完整圖片請參閱友站專文。
圖片中的新世代ThinkPad研發代號為「Kodachi」（源自日文「小太刀」，日本傳統兵器），裝配13.3吋寬螢幕LED背光面板，並內建 光碟機，算是繼T-Series之後，ThinkPad終於有一款輕薄的2-Spindle機種了。下圖是Kodachi的機體後視圖，站長非常驚訝 Kodachi不採用T60/X60的「電池後置」設計，T60/X60機體後面就是電池槽，所以並沒有太多的空間可放置連接埠。反觀Kodachi機體 後面依序由左而右分別是：AC電源接頭(20V)、外接螢幕接頭(D-sub)、RJ45(Ethernet)、無線網路硬體開關、USB 2.0接頭、CPU排風口。
Kodachi的後端佈局讓站長回想起了2000年發表的ThinkPad X20，下圖是X20的機體後視圖，是否頗有相似之處?只是歷經八年之後，RJ11(Modem)終於從新世代的Kodachi上退役了，同時拜LED背 光面板以及7mm超薄光碟機之賜，Kodachi即使內建光碟機，主機厚度仍比X20更薄。
Kodachi可說是日本Yamato Lab納入聯想麾下之後全力開發的全新機種，一方面融合了T60所獨有的Roll cage架構，另一方面則採用了LED背光面板、SSD固態硬碟以及7mm超薄光碟機，實現了多年來使用者引頸盼望的「低於2公斤」、「內建光碟機」的輕 薄ThinkPad夢想。Kodachi的LCD背蓋左下方新增Lenovo商標，右下方則改用新式ThinkPad標籤取代傳統的IBM ThinkPad標籤。
關於Kodachi的內部規格尚未明朗，站長猜測會採用Intel GM965晶片組，同時從下圖的CPU排風口研判，可能會搭載低電壓版Merom處理器(45奈米製程的Penryn處理器在2008Q3才會上市)，故 僅需鋁製散熱片。雖然台灣一直沒有引進內建WWAN(3G上網)功能的ThinkPad，但國外可能會推出內建802.11n(MIMO)+HSDPA (3.5G WWAN)以及UWB(UltraWide Band)以及藍牙功能的超完整無線配備機種，只要能克服電池續航力，相信Kodachi可取代T-Series成為商務人士的新世代移動辦公室利器。 2008年適逢ThinkPad 600十週年誕生，Kodachi即將以13.3吋寬螢幕姿態問世，此外次世代X-Series傳聞也在開發中，相信2008年對於ThinkPad愛用 者而言會是非常值得期待的一年！在此預祝大家新年愉快！
