Crysis Review

One of the most powerful games released for PC till date.

Look at the specifications required to run this game minimally I should say.

  • Minimum System Requirements:
  • OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
  • Processor - 2.8GHz or faster (XP); 3.2GHz or faster * (Vista)
  • Memory - 1GB RAM or 1.5GB RAM (Vista)
  • Video Card - 256MB **
  • Hard Drive - 12GB
  • Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible
  • Recommended System Requirements:
  • OS - Windows XP / Vista
  • Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.2GHz
  • Memory - 2GB RAM
  • Video Card - Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar
  • * Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz (3.2GHz for Vista) or faster, Intel Core 2GHz (2.2GHz for Vista) or faster, and other similar CPUs.
  • ** Supported chipsets: Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT + or similar GPUs. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Integrated chipsets are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

The physics and the modelling of the environment really blow you out of your chair.
Every blade of grass and tropical leaf is 3D rendered and able to be pushed around and seen from different angles (no tree-branch sprites here).

Take a look at the screenshot. Shading is implemented for everything.
The flawless lighting system, the night/day system, the sun, the trees the grass, all done with extreme details.
Fires, explosions, smoke, dust, all look stupidly real. Water looks and acts so much like actual water (even right down to wave dynamics, light refraction and beading off the camera when you get out) that I actually found myself thinking I could cool off my computer's white-hot GPU by going underwater.

The biggest features of this game include:
  • Fully DX10 capable title (DX9 Available, but not nearly as impressive)
  • Very destructible environments
  • Intelligent AI
  • Nanosuit "Superpowers"
  • Weapon customization
  • Free-roam capability
  • A very good story
  • An editor
  • Multiplayer
Overall Verdict: AA game (it will take a computer 4 years from now, year 2008, to render and run this game to its fullest potential) - Future proof your games collection with this Crysis!
